Myofascial Release & Neuromuscular Therapy

Most massage therapists offer myofascial release as one technique among many. Adam Gordon CMT brings together myofascial release and neuromuscular therapy (NMT) as an integrated clinical system — and comes to you.

This combination is the difference between temporary relief and lasting change. Myofascial release addresses the connective tissue restrictions that limit movement and perpetuate pain. Neuromuscular therapy locates the trigger points and nerve compression patterns driving those restrictions in the first place. Together, they resolve the root cause — not just the symptom.
With 20 years of practice and over 2,000 hours of training, Adam works with clients managing chronic pain, post-surgical recovery, structural imbalances, sciatica, fibromyalgia, repetitive strain, and complex musculoskeletal conditions. Mobile sessions throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

What conditions does myofascial release treat?
Myofascial release is particularly effective for chronic back, neck, and hip pain, post-surgical adhesions and scar tissue, structural imbalances, headaches, sciatica, fibromyalgia, and restricted range of motion. When integrated with neuromuscular therapy, it also addresses trigger point referral patterns and nerve entrapment syndromes.

Is myofascial release the same as massage therapy?
Myofascial release is a specific manual therapy technique targeting the fascia — the connective tissue surrounding muscles, nerves, and organs. It requires specialized training and a different quality of touch than general massage. Combined with neuromuscular therapy, it becomes a clinical intervention for pain and dysfunction, not simply relaxation.

Can myofascial release reduce fibrosis?
Yes. Sustained myofascial release applied to areas of fibrosis — including post-surgical scar tissue — can measurably improve tissue mobility and reduce pain over a series of sessions. This is one of the most clinically significant applications of the technique.

Is myofascial release covered by insurance?
Most health insurance plans do not cover massage therapy or myofascial release performed by a CMT. However, some HSA and FSA accounts may reimburse sessions. Adam can provide a detailed session receipt for submission.

What makes Adam's approach different?
Adam's training is rooted in the Swedish Institute's clinical curriculum and the Anatomy Trains framework developed by Thomas Myers — one of the most respected models of fascial continuity in manual therapy. Integrated with classical neuromuscular therapy and two decades of practice, each session follows what the tissue presents rather than a fixed protocol. No two sessions are identical, because no two bodies are.
